Sunday 17th March 2026 is Bell Sunday, the closest Sunday to St Dunstan's day (19th March).
St Dunstan is known as the Patron Saint of Bellringers due to his experimentation in early forging of bells in the 900’s AD. It is this reason we have chosen a Sunday near his feast day (19th May) that does not conflict with any other significant days in the Church calendar to promote Bell Sunday; a day where the contribution of bells and Bellringers to the life of the Church is recognised.
To celebrate this day - a quarter peal was rang at Coaley, including of course, a 120 of St Dunstan!
Despite my doubts about the changes being made to the competition I think it was a success with a number of teams taking part in both the method section and call changes section.
Berkeley, Chipping Sodbury, Coaley and Dursley were in the method section. I'm sorry I haven't a clue as to how we managed to come second to Dursley, but I think we did very well. Thanks to all who have taken part even if only in a supporting role.
Commemorating 55 years since the re-starting of ringing in the village of Coaley:
A slight variation(!) away from the St Augustine base method which we had expired, but when we found out we had an anniversary of ringing returning to the village, we had to claim it.
Method: Reverse Canterbury Pleasure Place
Plain (P)
Demvihja Omit (O)
Wallflower Single (S)
Pink's Single (S2)

Coaley was privileged to be host the National Call Change Competition on the 7th June 2025.
The event was a huge success and congratulations to all teams that entered and to St Paul's, Birmingham for being the winners
We managed to raise just under £800 for the church with profits coming from the tea & cake sales in the church, the bar, fish & chips, buffet lunches at the hall, as well as the raffle and some very generous donations.
Thank you to everyone that took part, supported, watched, listened or was in any way a part of this historical day which has really put Coaley onto the national stage!
