Coady CEP 812 Questions Sketchy Vido, Coady, 2023
The thing I have thought about for the past 5 years as a teacher has always been “what is the right question to ask a student to get them to make the connection I want?”. This week, I have been reflecting on some of the wicked questions, questions that I have no clear answer too, that I have asked myself regarding everything from the reason we still use standardized tests, to how to best motivate students in class (SBU 2023). As a part of this reflection, I recorded my brainstorming process in a sketch note style video.
Now, to be frank, I still have no clue if I did this assignment completely correctly. After all, most of these styles of videos are done in a digital style format, while mine was on pre-written note cards that I organized on video (Delfin, 2012). Which led to probably my biggest challenge, filming this enterprise. I tried to set up a pseudo tripod that was pointed down but it was too top heavy and would not work on the surface I was filming on. Instead, I was lucky enough to have my girlfriend over and asked her to stand on a bench next to my table to see the entire process from a bird’s eye view.
Overall, while I found this process interesting and a new way of experiencing brainstorming, I tend to enjoy making word maps or mental comparisons over this type of organization and filming. The act of brainstorming, at least in my opinion, feels more genuine if it is in the moment, rather than pre-planned or filmed.
