Chem Olympiad

The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) is a multi-tiered competition for high school students, with the Colorado Local Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) proudly sponsoring the local phases of the event. Organized by volunteer coordinators Ethan Dusto and Greta Glugoski, the program began on March 7th with 31 students participating in the Local Section Exam. From that group, 14 students qualified to advance to the national level. On April 11, 2026, Cherry Creek High School hosted these 14 qualifiers as they sat for the rigorous National Chemistry Olympiad Exam. Representing various high schools across the region, these students tackled a three-part assessment of their theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills. High scorers will earn an invitation to the prestigious Study Camp at the University of Maryland from May 31 to June 13, 2026. There, the top 20 students in the country will undergo intensive training, with the final four being selected to represent the United States at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Uzbekistan.
