This calendar will serve as a guide for the development and growth of the program throughout the Fall. It has three distinct phases that serve to bring the base level of skill upwards and to become a dominant confident program as a whole. The phases are:
Skill Acquisition
Power/Tempo
Mastery
Each phase will last three weeks with each week and phase complimenting the previous.
Brief breakdown of the phases and their purposes:
Phase 1- Skill Acquisition Phase:
This phase is purposefully slowed down and meticulous. Everything is taught and retaught until skills and expectations are understood. We will not move on from this phase until the coaching staff is satisfied with skill proficiency. All basic skills are learned and mastered more effectively when consequence free competitions and games are attached to the skills being acquired. This phase will attach a “play modality” to itself to foster a learning environment and shorten the learning curve.
Phase 2- Power/Tempo Phase:
This phase will be purposefully sped up and overclocked. Everything is bigger, faster and harder. Making the game/drills chaotic and fast to determine deficiencies. Once discovered it will be important to double down on weak areas to prevent mistakes during stress. This phase will foster a competitive environment that attaches consequences to wins and losses. It will attach a “pressure and competition modality” to help prepare players for the stresses of the season and competition of all kinds.
Phase 3 - Mastery Phase:
This phase will be designed at game speed combining all of the newly acquired skills. During this phase everything will be tracked and accessed by the coaches. This phase will identify the players who have the necessary skills to compete for playing time. This phase will attach itself to a “team first modality” and foster an environment that expresses “what helps the team earns playing time” motto.
