South Carolina coach Frank Martin responds to question from young reporter.
AURIEMMA DEMANDS EXCELLENCE — “Me, we, my coaching staff, we put a huge premium on body language,” Auriemma said. “And if your body language is bad, you will never get in the game. Ever. I don't care how good you are. If somebody says, well, you just benched (Breanna Stewart) for 35 minutes in the Memphis game a couple of years ago. Yeah, I did. That was to motivate her for the South Carolina game the following Monday? No, it wasn't. Stewy was acting like a 12-year-old. So I put her on the bench and said sit there.”
"Recruiting kids that are really upbeat, loving life, love the game, have this tremendous appreciation for when their teammates do something well, that's hard...its's really hard."
Here is what you should know about winning before you chase it.
Winning's not loyal to you.
It doesn't care about you.
Winning doesn't care how sore you are.
Winning doesn't care how much sleep you get.
Winning doesn't care how hard you work at times.
Sometimes a guy doesn't out-work you and he still wins.
It isn't fair!
Sometimes there is no justice.
Winning requires all of you, and then more, and it promises you nothing.
It is a master (mind) of creating fear and doubt in your mind.
It causes setback after setback.
So they question is...about winning...
"Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown?"
And, why chase this thing called "winning?"
Because the only thing that is guaranteed in life if you don't chase it
is losing.
