Stoltzfus (2008) stated,
There are four main areas to help discover a person's motivations with some possible coaching questions for each:
"If you had a year to live, what would be most important to you to do and be in that time?"
"What makes your heart sing?"
"What are the places in life or roles you fill that most touch your own emotions - where you find yourself laughing, crying, joyful, sad, discourages or inspired?"
"What are three things you've done that you couldn't wait to get at each day? How about three things you dreaded and constantly anted to avoid?"
"When was the time in life where you had the most (or least) energy? What were you doing in those times that energized or de-energized you?"
"What's been the most satisfying thing you've done? What made it so fulfilling?"
"What have you done that you are most proud of?"
"What have you done in life that you'd love to do more of?"
"What issues do you truly care about in the world around you?"
"Have you ever seen a tragedy on the news that made you cry? What was it? Why did it impact you that way?"
"Imagine yourself at the end of your life looking back. Is there a dream in you of serving or helping others that would cause you deep regret if you never took the risk to go for it?"
