In the words of bell hooks, a homeplace is “a site of resistance and liberation.” For Black women, homeplaces have long been more than physical spaces—they are where we gather strength, voice our truths, and find restoration.
For Black women in higher education, homeplaces serve as much-needed sanctuaries amidst isolating or personally affronting professional environments.
Here, “home” isn’t about location but it's a space where like-hearted Black women unite and heal from the weight of navigating academic spaces that weren’t designed with us in mind.
EmpoweredxHomeplaces embraces this concept by offering Black women a community that honors our unique experiences in leadership and academia. Here, we build and protect space that sustains us as we continue to make an impact.
