Welcome to Coach's P.E. & SEL Class
CLASS OVERVIEW
Students of all grade and skill levels participate in physical activity in courses that develop team and individual skills, with emphasis on habitual health and wellness as a lifelong goal. Students at Manzanita maintain physical activity journals and are expected to commit 400 hundred minutes per weekend engaging in health and physical fitness, documenting completed activities in their journals.
SEL is also an integral component of Manzanita’s physical education program. Examples of activities that foster social and emotional growth are: Circle Time; Community Walks; student facilitators for warm-up and strength-building activities; and self-awareness and self-regulation while participating in rigorous team activities.
Each year, all of Manzanita students learn CPR and memorize all of their bones and muscle names. In addition, students participate in nutrition education, as well as health and disease information.
Coach John Bibb
John Bibb ("Coach"), Athletic Director, has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he played collegiate football. Coach began teaching P.E. at Manzanita in 2015, after teaching and coaching multiple grade levels for 11 years in the Los Angeles area. In addition to his passion for teaching youth how to cultivate and live a healthy physical, emotional, and social lifestyle, he uses his former experience as head varsity high school football coach and boys/girls basketball coach to motivate and inspire students and create camaraderie among peer groups. Coach is a sports enthusiast and spends his leisure time exposing and engaging his two sons, ages 11 and 7, in athletic and sport activities.
