I created this site because I found someone putting a 'Stop Co-governance' pamphlet in my mailbox.
This person was a well dressed pākeha-looking woman in her 60's or 70's, and she obviously thought I could be a kindred spirit (that's me in the photo). I took one glance at the cover and told her I was unlikely to agree with the views in her pamphlet, but I'd have a look anyway.
"it's just some facts," she told me, suddenly seeming less sure of herself.
"It's important to make informed decisions." Then she scuttled off down the street, looking kind of furtive and ashamed. I'm not surprised.
What I saw in that pamphlet made me feel quite sick - it was so full of racist, fear-mongering misinformation and blatant lies it was hard to imagine anyone taking it seriously. But it seems the person who delivered it - and others like her; have been taking it seriously.
If you or someone you know is one of these people, please take a look at this site - I hope it will make you less fearful,
better informed and more confident that things will be OK in the future.
The first red flag in the pamphlet I received was the language used - it's full of terms like 'apartheid', 'racism', 'fraud', 'destroying', 'forced', 'threatening', 'division', 'corrupting', 'damaging', 'brainwashing', 'blame', 'radical' - words which are clearly calculated to brainwash and corrupt, and provoke the very division and fear the pamphlet claims to be fighting against.
The 'quotes' are taken from self-published books, articles published in radical right-wing publications, and in many cases just lifted from emails which are not published anywhere - all written/spoken by people who are well known for their right-wing, racist views. They are not well-researched, reputable, balanced or scholarly in nature - they are designed to manipulate people into believing these views and to make them think the information is true, therefore eliminating the need to question them or make any efforts to explore the issue further.
Please don't be sucked in by this fear-based misinformation!
Admittedly, it can be difficult to know what to believe and what not to when you are looking for 'facts' to base 'informed decisions' on. I don't claim to have all the answers, but on this website I have put together links to a bunch of articles and videos which, in my opinion, provide balanced, fact-based information that may prove valuable to anyone who genuinely wants to understand more about co-governance - how it's already working, why it could be a great thing for Aotearoa, and the historical and social context that has created the need for it.
