Junior Band
Junior band is where the journey starts for most wind players at CNEDMC! Players of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments are welcome to try Junior Band as soon as they start note reading and can play around 5 notes. It offers a fun environment for beginners to experience the joy of playing instruments together. It provides valuable experience playing alongside others. We hope the combination of making friends and making music creates a fun and positive experience.
This group is a fantastic addition to more formal lessons, allowing a much more well-rounded experience for young musicians. The ensemble is a springboard into the more senior ensembles at CNEDMC, giving all the support and focus required to enable great group music-making.
Festival Band
Festival Band caters for woodwind, brass and percussion players from grade 4 to 8+. The repertoire played is diverse, ranging from original wind band pieces to film and pop music arrangements. Many of our Seniors playing within this ensemble also play at County and/or National level.
Flute Choir
Flute Choir provides an exciting opportunity for more advanced players (grades 4 to 8+) to tackle challenging repertoire in a smaller ensemble setting. Led by a flute specialist the group uses the full range of the flute family including piccolo, alto and bass flutes. As a senior ensemble flute choir also engages in external concerts, offering valuable performance opportunities beyond our music centre community.
Clarinet Choir
Clarinet Choir is for more advanced clarinettists (grade 4 to grade 8+). Performing a diverse range of repertoire, it provides clarinet players with an opportunity to explore the full capabilities of the instrument in a group led by a clarinet specialist. The inclusion of different size clarinets, such as Eb, alto, bass and contra-bass, along with small ensemble playing, offers valuable experiences for individual skill development. Clarinet Choir also regularly performs in external concerts.
Brass Fusion
Brass Fusion offers a distinctive musical experience, welcoming senior brass players (grade 4 to grade 8+) and others from time to time as needed. With a fusion of brass instruments, drums, keyboards, bass guitar, and occasional vocals and other wind instruments, the ensemble explores a variety of styles uncommon in young brass musicians' repertoire. The inclusion of Funk, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Ska, and R&B makes this group a unique and diverse offering for CNEDMC students. Brass Fusion also performs at external engagements, providing real-world experience for the musicians.
Junior Strings
Junior Strings at CNEDMC welcomes violin, viola, cello and double bass players who can place their first finger down on the string, up to grade 3 standard. This group nurtures and supports the early development of ensemble music-making through playing fun repertoire with other like minded people.
It provides valuable experience playing alongside others. We hope the combination of making friends and making music creates a fun and positive experience.

Chamber Orchestra
Our Chamber Orchestra is for violin, viola, cello and double bass players of around grade 4 to grade 8+ and aims to advance string technique through full ensemble playing. With a repertoire spanning various genres, the group not only challenges musicians to enhance their skills but also fosters orchestral discipline, improves listening abilities, and cultivates teamwork within a fun and friendly environment.
Folk Group and Vocal Choir
Our folk group learns without written music, developing important creative musicianship skills. Any instrument/voice will be considered as we are a flexible band. A variety of standards are welcome. We learn a variety of folk repertoire and work on lots of improvisation skills too.
