The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is a global citizen science event where people document biodiversity in their cities using the iNaturalist platform. The goal is to engage communities in observing and recording wildlife, contributing valuable data for scientific research and conservation.
The CNC 2025 will happen in two phases:
📸 Observation Period: April 25-28, 2025 – Take photos or record sounds of any organisms you find.
🔍 Identification Period: April 29-May 4, 2025 – Help identify species uploaded by others.
Anyone! Whether you’re a scientist, a nature enthusiast, a student, or just curious about the environment, you can join. All you need is a smartphone or camera to record your observations.
No formal registration is required! Just download iNaturalist, create an account, and start uploading your observations during the event.
Anywhere in Kraków and its surroundings! You can explore parks, forests, riversides, gardens, or even find wildlife in urban areas. Every observation counts!

No, only observations made during the CNC event dates will count.
Once the observation period ends, the identification phase begins. During this time, experts and the community will help confirm species identifications. The final results, including the number of observations and species recorded, will be announced shortly after.
You can keep using iNaturalist year-round to document nature in Kraków! We also encourage you to join local nature groups and future citizen science projects.
