Summary/Book Synopsis

A group of teenagers at Paladine Middle School get curious about some mass kidnappings after one of their siblings get kidnapped. Then soon discover that the kidnapped are being brought into another dimension. Isabell, a girl who is trapped in her thoughts, can communicate between the two world due to her wild imagination and intelligence.

World Building Exercise - 'Otherworld'

1. Tell us about your world. What is it about?

The 'other-world' is supposed to be an escape from terrible reality and corruption. A female scientist in 2007 discovered alternate dimensions. She found a world where she could create and control things under her will. She has been using her 'shadow pets', which were horrible experiments that she created during the first years of the world, to capture the useful and good in the world and bring them to her world. She leads them in with a false sense of security and confusion, which makes them want to stay eve more once they realize that it is way better than the real world.

The 'other-world' is the same as the regular world, since it is an alternate dimension

3. Who lives in your world?

Random amounts of people. Diverse groups that come to nurses at a local hospital to Mrs.Columbine's Kindergarten class.

4. What’s its history? (How did it come to be?)

Refer to number one. It was discovered in 2007 by a female scientist in Paladine. She soon discovered that if she could master controlling the dimension, she could make this world her own. Growing up poor, the scientist knew how bad the world was. This gave her a purpose. Soon mastering the dimension, she was able create small things as she grew stronger. She had created these shadow like figures that could take the good and useful into her world.

5. What sorts of civilizations and architecture fill your world?

The scientist creates little divisions by dividing them by certain features. Things like skills and age.

6. How does gender & sexuality work in your world?

It is the same as the original dimension, but less toxicity. This gives people who are more diverse a safe space, which makes them want to stay more.

7. How does the economy work in your world? What sorts of currencies do they use?

They use the barter system. Using items that they get from their backpacks (Refer to #20). Sometimes the system is stubborn and people can't get what they need. So they trade with other groups. They also wil exchange people from group to group to groups have stronger skill sets.

People still believe in whatever religion they had in the other dimension. Every single Division has different beliefs on who controls the dimension and what the purpose of the backpack is.

A lot of times people will celebrate the same holiday that are celebrated in other dimensions.

The language isn't that diverse. There is a division that speaks French and another that speak Spanish. Majority of them have immigrated from their country to Paladine.

There is one irregular creature which is usually called 'Shadow Pet'. It can also be called 'Shadow Figure', 'Vapor Shadow', or 'Shadow Pet'

The usual plants from the regular world. But, sometimes these plant can disappear and reappear randomly.

Whatever is given to them in the endless bag

15. What technology is used in your world?

Not a lot, since internet does not exist, nor it there a need for it.

Yes. It is what created the dimension in the first place. The scientist uses things like her intelligence and mentality power to control the world.

There is none, except for what the backpack gives you.

Whatever you showed up there with or what ever the backpack gives you.

19. How are wars fought in your world?

There usually are turf wars between older divisions. They usually don't use violence, only persuasion to make people slowly leave the division to go into the other division until they have to surrender.

20. What sorts of weapons & armor are used in your world?

There is one special weapon that every division of people get. It is a endless backpack. You are able to get whatever you need, at anytime. It may take a while, or the request may seem unworthy to the scientist.

21. What do people do for fun in your world?

A lot times they like to play the usual games they had in their regular dimension, but with things like batteries, marbles, and rocks. Example: If they wants to play Monopoly, they would have to create the cards on their own, along with the money. They would use different colored rocks as the game pieces or the marbles that were provided in the front of the backpack (For entertainment and tradition)

22. What do people do for work in your world?

People will usually trade to help other divisions, or they will have jobs assigned to them by their leader of their division. The leader of the division is usually the first one to try to take control when they arrive at the other dimension.

23. What’s the sky like in your world?

Like the rest of the world, the sky is in monochrome. It is almost like an old photograph, that what makes the world contradict with the regular world.

24. What places are still unexplored in your world?

A lot of the world is unexplored. Like the regular dimension, not a lot of the ocean has been explored. Majority of people in the divisions avoid forests.

25. What do people carry with them on a daily basis in your world?

The endless backpack, wood, water, and clothing

26. What sorts of art exist in your world?

Whatever you could make with a pencil in paper. Sometimes divisions will label where they have been with rock places on the ground to create a symbol.

By feet. They do not use anything but their legs. There are no cars, trains, planes, bikes, and other transportation that has been discovered or been able to be used.

Mostly the scientist. She had created this world and it bringing people into it. Jean and Oakley's division was the first to discover and rebel against her.

29. How do people communicate with each other in your world?

Mostly by notes left carved in a tree, or written on paper. Most people use verbal communication or sign language.

30. What’s the weather like in your world?

Majority of the weather depends on the mood of the scientist. She unconsciously controls the weather without knowing. The weather is consistent majority of the time.
