Club Penguin Digital is now released to the public!
Q: What is Club Penguin?
A: Club Penguin was a gigantic world-famous massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) children's social media-like virtual world game for ages 6-14, where you move around with penguin avatars in which you can dress it up with boy, non-binary, and girl clothes, and buy colorful pets, called puffles, which you can feed it Puffle O's, dress it up, or even play minigames with some specific puffles. You have to play minigames to get coins, which is the virtual currency of Club Penguin that you can use to buy clothes, puffles, and much, much, more. You can also meet up with mascots such as Rockhopper, Aunt Arctic, and Gary the Gadget Guy. The idea of Club Penguin started in 1999, in which the creator, Lance Priebe, saw a newspaper comic about penguins and polar bears. Later on, in 2000, Experimental Penguin was founded, which changed its name to Penguin Chat in 2003, and finally, 2 years later, Club Penguin, in 2005. A company called RocketSnail created the Club Penguin version officially in 2005, but not officially yet; on August 25, 2005, the Beta Party (parties are like events in Club Penguin) went live for only 2 hours, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the timezone of Kelowna, Canada, which was where Club Penguin was created and headquartered. Club Penguin ran on Miniclip, a place full of online games, in 2006. The Walt Disney Company purchased Club Penguin on August 1, 2007, for $8 million, which now, is worth $11 million in 2022. When Disney bought it, the website moved out of Miniclip and became its own website. More features were added to Club Penguin by Disney, and soon, kids all around the world started playing Club Penguin, and earned money from membership cards they bought to unlock features brickwalled by the membership. Soon, Club Penguin started selling lots of souvenirs, books, shirts, shoes, posters, watches, and other types of merchandise. In 2012, the game was revamped completely, and more kinds of puffles came. All of the current designs (the rooms, igloos, buttons, penguins, clothings, mascots, and much more) were revamped by Disney. In 2015 and 2016, Disney realized the game started losing players. Not only that, but the money made from members and merch were also crashing to the bottom of the charts. Finally, in January of 2017, Disney announced that the game would be shutting down 2 months later. Everyone panicked and cried from nostalgia. On March 30, 2017, the game shutdown. Players were not happy with the shutdown, they were mad and sad, and they even cried of memories. One month earlier, on February 11, 2017, the first known fan-made server (A.K.A. Club Penguin Private Server, CPPS for short) launched without Disney knowing. The Club Penguin private server's name was Club Penguin Rewritten, created by a fan whose name was "Stu," along with 3 others, "Thorn" and "Gravix." Everyone, scared about the shutdown, moved to Club Penguin Rewritten. It was able to run until March 4, 2018 by a bad staff member, but was able to rerun again later on in 2018. More features were added, along with puffles in February 2022, and Card-Jitsu in March 2022, one of the minigames. The last party on Club Penguin Rewritten, the April Fools Party, ended right before the Hollywood Party was announced on the blog. Unfortunately, the Hollywood Party didn't go live, as at 5 o'clock in the early morning of April 13, 2022, Club Penguin Rewritten was forced to shut down by the second Cease & Desist letter from Disney, but the creators ignored them. The City of London Police's PIPCU unit had to seize the website and left a notice saying: "This website has been seized by the The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU)." Three people, which were the creators of CPRewritten, were arrested, but were released shortly after. Since then, more private servers such as New Club Penguin, rose in popularity. Eventually, CPPSes, such as Club Penguin Journey, Club Penguin Legacy, Club Penguin Forever and Club Penguin Today have been created.
Q: Has Club Penguin Digital officially released yet?
A: Yes, it has been confirmed by DoritosCP (the creator) after talking with Yasmin (one of the few founders) after he asked Dorito if the website was still under construction in Twitter DMs. If you want to check the current version of Club Penguin Digital, go to our STATUS page by clicking on the underlined word.
Q: When did Club Penguin Digital launch?
A: July 27, 2023. It was originally called Club Penguin Reborn until the team realized there was already another CPPS (Club Penguin Private Server) called that. Dorito and Yasmin spent around 10 minutes thinking about what they should call the private server. Yasmin wanted to call it Club Penguin Virtual, but Dorito came up with Club Penguin Digital. They thought both of them sounded good, but they still didn't know which name to give our humble private server. Dorito asked his friends which name was better, and Club Penguin Digital won.
