Rules and Details

General

  1. Participants will be placed in to divisions. Players of a similar standard will, as far as possible, be placed in the same division

  2. Each player should try to play each other player in their division between the start and finish dates of a round. Round three will start on Monday 28th. September and finish seven weeks later on Sunday 15th. November. The mid-point is Sunday 25th. October. See below for significance of the mid point

  3. Participation was previously open to all male members of CLTC and to male advanced juniors. Now ladies who are happy to play singles against men are also welcome to take part.

  4. Participants organise their own matches against others in their division. Matches can take place at any time between the start and finish dates of a round, subject to courts being available.

Scoring

  1. Matches are played over three sets. A tie break (first to 7 by a margin of 2) is played in the first and second sets if the score reaches 6 games all.

  2. The third set is played as a long tie break. The winner is the first to 10 by a margin of 2.

  3. If both players agree, the third set can be played as a full set, but again with a tie break to 7 played if the score reaches 6 games all.

  4. The winner of each set gets one point. This also applies to the third set whether played as a long tie break or full set.

  5. Players who complete three matches by the mid-point will get 2 extra points. This is to encourage players to get ahead and complete matches.

  6. Players get one point for completing a match whether they win a set or not.

Walkovers and Players Injured

1 . Players should note that there is no provision for a match to be awarded to an opponent as a

walkover. If a match cannot be played then no points can be awarded.

2. If a player becomes injured during a match and is unable to complete the match then, if

possible, the match should be finished at a later date. If the match cannot be finished at a later

date, then one point will be awarded to the winner of each completed set.

Simply email your name and a very brief message stating that you wish to participate in round two to me at Gordon.Shirreff@outlook.com . In the above example Djokovic gets 3 points and del Potro 2 points, or

Rafael Nadal bt Stan Wawrinka (July 14th) 7-6 (7-2), 6-4

In this example Nadal gets 3 points and Wawrinka gets 1 point

  1. Approximately weekly, participants will receive an email giving them the results of all the matches in their division and the other divisions and the scores. The results will also be placed on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

  2. The winner in each division is the player with the greatest number of points by the finish date of 15th. November.

Promotion and Relegation

  1. The winners and second place player from divisions two, three, four, five and six will be promoted to divisions one, two, three, four and five as appropriate. The bottom two placed players in divisions one, two, three, four and five will be relegated to divisions two, three, four ,five and six as appropriate.

  2. If necessary and to equalise the number of players in each division, the above may have to be varied. Promotion and relegation assumes obviously that the players concerned wish to participate in the next round of the singles league.

  3. All those wishing to participate will have to register for the next round at the appropriate time. This means that the original commitment is quite short term. If you participate in a round but find that it’s not for you, then that’s fine. New participants will also have an opportunity to register for the next round, subject to their being spaces available. Participants from the round just completed are given preference in registering for the next round.

  4. This round will be the final rounds for 2020. The singles league will start again around the end of March 2021. As far as possible the promotions and relegations from this round will be respected when organising round one in 2021.
