We focus on analyzing cloud microphysical data collected directly using aircraft and helicopters to investigate cloud microphysical properties and underlying mechanisms. These observational studies are directly tied to critical atmospheric issues, such as aerosol-cloud interactions and cloud seeding. To complement the observational findings and gain deeper physical insights, numerical modeling is also actively performed alongside field campaigns. Through this integrated approach, we aim to advance our fundamental understanding of cloud processes and weather modification.

To overcome the environmental and operational limitations of direct field observations, our lab leverages controlled chamber experiments as one of our core strengths. Through a wide range of targeted chamber simulations, we aim to deepen fundamental scientific understanding of aerosol and cloud microphysical processes. Furthermore, we actively utilize these experimental insights to develop and refine microphysical parameterizations for numerical models. This integrated framework allows us to bridge laboratory-scale physics with large-scale atmospheric modeling.

Utilizing a comprehensive aerosol instruments in our laboratory, we actively perform field observations across Seoul and the surrounding seas of the Korean Peninsula. These measurements allow us to thoroughly examine the variations in the microphysical and chemical properties of aerosols across both urban and marine environments. Furthermore, we utilize these detailed observational datasets to advance our fundamental understanding of aerosol-cloud interactions. Through this research, we aim to clarify how surface-level aerosol dynamics influence regional climate and cloud processes.Â
