The CTSA network can synergize its talent and data to achieve insights into disease causes, optimal treatments, and natural history. Accomplishing this endeavor poses some challenges, including harmonizing clinical data, accessing data, and performing query efforts. The use of common data models can mitigate many of the challenges surrounding data interoperability, and have led to the evolution of several strategies for federated query.
CD2H is following the success of last year’s workshop on Federated Data Query to convene a similar group of CTSA informatics personnel and related investigators with the following example questions:
- How can curated repositories of cross mappings among common data models advance translational research aims?
- How can the Health Open Terminologies Ecosystem initiative advance the integration of ontologies, value sets, and terminologies used in translational research?
- Will the publication of algorithms to convert FHIR messages from APIs into common data model specifications (initially ACT for CTSA engagement) provide value to CTSA hubs?
