Governance and Partners

The proposed Center shall be an independent body academically housed within the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), but with its own charter, scope, governance, and monitoring mechanisms. The eventual authority shall rest with a Board of Directors with membership drawn from a broad spectrum in Pakistan (government and non-government) as well as academic, community, patient, and industry representation.

In collaboration with Innovations in Healthcare Advocacy, Research and Training (I-HART) and Ferozsons Laboratories Limited, LUMS will house the Center for Clinical and Population Health Research at LUMS.

Ferozsons Laboratories Limited

Ferozsons Laboratories Limited is a public limited company founded in the year 1960 and listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Ferozsons possesses leadership brands in the areas of gastroenterology, hepatology, cardiology and oncology, with an emerging presence in endocrinology as well as mother and child health the diabetes space.

Ferozsons is one of the leading companies in Pakistan maintaining exclusive agreements with a number of international partners for distribution, selling and co-manufacturing of products including the Bagó Group in Argentina, BioGaia of Sweden, Biofreeze of Performance Health Inc., PanTheryx, Boston Scientific and Gilead Sciences, Inc. in the USA.

With Bagó Group of Argentina, we have set up a world class biotech CGMP compliant facility through a joint venture, BF Biosciences Limited. The company is set up exclusively for the manufacture of biologicals and we are the first and only company in Pakistan currently to have a biotech manufacturing facility in the country

We are also the exclusive partners for Gilead Sciences Inc. for their range of branded products in HBV, HCV and HIV, and additionally hold an in-country license to manufacture authorized generics of Gilead's products for HCV.

Ferozsons also represents the Boston Scientific Corporation for their range of medical devices in the areas of cardiology, electrophysiology, endoscopy, gastroenterology, pulmonology, urology and peripheral interventions.

Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS

The nationwide scarcity of science and engineering graduates with cross-disciplinary skills motivated the founders of SBASSE to establish the School of Science and Engineering at LUMS to bring a paradigm shift in science and engineering education in the country. The LUMS Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), initiated in 2008, is the first private research school for science and engineering in Pakistan with a vision, “to carry out world-class, multidisciplinary education and research”.

Clinicians are the epitome of discoverers, curious scientists, who can engage in the journey of critical inquiry. The Life Sciences educational paradigm being followed at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) provides a nursery to cultivate curiosity and critical thinking for probing the unknown in medical research. Knowledge creation in the clinical sector also depends heavily on fundamental science.

Furthermore, the research is a critical component of effective health care management and this initiative will provide health management sector with opportunities to engage in rigorous research, including critical appraisal of scientific literature, application of scientific methods, discovery-oriented approaches to medical research and understanding ethical issues involved in this sector.
