Whodunnit?
There has, inevitably, been much speculation about who was behind the leak, hack, break-in, or whatever you want to call it. Much of this speculation is ill-informed.
There was an investigation by Norfolk Police, called 'Operation Cabin', that spent over £84,000, but got nowhere. The final report published in July 2012 can be read here.
A good place to start is with the primary source, the text posted with the link at the climate blogs.
Here it is in full.

We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to be kept under wraps.
We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents.
Hopefully it will give some insight into the science and the people behind it.

We can immediately deduce something about the person who wrote this from the style of these comments. "Osborn: concerns with MBH uncertainty". What does that refer to? Clearly, whoever wrote that knew what he was talking about. Knew that MBH was a paper by Mann, Bradley and Hughes that was controversial.
