Professor Sławomir Kwasik (1953-2021) was a respected mathematician who dedicated his career to the field of algebraic and geometric topology. Born in Rogów, Poland, in 1953, he graduated from the University of Warsaw in 1977 with a degree in pure mathematics. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in algebraic topology from the University of Gdansk in 1979 under the supervision of Professor Lech Górniewicz.

After completing the Ph.D. degree, Professor Kwasik was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Gdansk. He then held several visiting scholar positions, including one at the University of Heidelberg in West Germany, where he experienced the imposition of Martial Law in Poland. He has held various academic positions, including Associate Professor and Visiting Assistant Professor, at institutions such as the University of Oklahoma, Université de Nantes in France, and Purdue University, where he established a lifelong collaboration with Professor Reinhard Schultz.

In 1988, Professor Kwasik joined the faculty of the Mathematics Department at Tulane University, where he remained until his passing in 2021. His research interests were wide-ranging and he published over 65 professional journal articles, many of them in top-tier journals such as Inventiones Mathematicae, American Journal of Mathematics, and Duke Mathematical Journal. A summary of selected works (based on the MathSci reviews) is included in the section below.
