About us

Chung Ling High School Harmonica Band was established in 1952. Our club was established to promote the beauty of music and to increase the number of harmonica players in the nation. The core activity of our club is of course, to practice harmonica in order to enhance our skills.

Back then, the amount of members in our harmonica band was very little, musical instruments were insufficient and incomplete, neither did we have a teacher nor an instructor. In 2004, our team became the champion for the category of diatonic harmonica and the third of ensemble in the Malaysia Harmonica Competition. Our harmonica band also won many awards in the Suzuki competition in 2007. In 2008, under the efforts of our instructor ----Mr. Loke Chee Tion and the members of harmonica band, our band won numerous awards in the Harmonica Festival and Competition which was held by Penang Chinese Town Hall. Our harmonica band obtained a total of 4 Gold, 12 Silver and 2 Bronze. In 2009, our harmonica band had held our first concert. In 2011, our harmonica band has won 6 Gold and 3 Bronze in the Penang Harmonica Competition. In addition, in 2012, our harmonica band has obtained a total of 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze, 1 Best Solo Junior Award and 1 best Quartet Award in Penang Harmonica Competition. In the same year, our harmonica band has won 1 Gold and 1 Silver in Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival. In 2013, our harmonica band has won 5 Silver and 3 Bronze in the Penang Harmonica Competition. In 2014, our harmonica band has won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze. In 2015, we have won three gold and four silver by participating in 2015 Penang Harmonica Music Festival. In 2018, we won 3 bronze in the 2016 Penang Harmonica Music Festival.

Although the members of our club are decreasing year by year, from the peak era of 224 members on 2003 to only 29 members on 2017, our passionate and committed committees are still trying their very best to increase the number of members. Today, our club is much more systematic and our members have more than doubled from 29 to 77 members.
