You have options whether you feel like you do or not. One change that can shake up your whole life (for the good) is moving. Sometimes all people need is a new place to call home. A new job where they can start fresh and share their learned experiences with new people.
Speaking of new people, this would be a great chance to finally be yourself around people. In a town where you’re surrounded by people you grew up with, it is so hard to come into yourself as an adult person. You get remembered for something you did in high school and people never seem to look past that. Moving gets you a new perspective on life and a vigor to learn new things, meet new people, and appreciate starting over.
I saw a statistic one time that the majority of people in the world live within 10 miles of where they were born. This absolutely blew my mind. And then I thought about it. Almost every single person I know lives relatively close to where they grew up. Then I started thinking about why that is. I guess people are just comfortable where they are and so they decide to set up their lives there. Most people probably don’t even think about leaving. This is where they were born, where their family is, and where everyone they know is. So, what about people who are unhappy where they are? Most people don’t even realize the reasons they are unhappy are changeable. They just feel the need to complain about their life with no intention of changing it.
The only thing in your way is you. Some people feel comfortable always living in the same town, and that’s amazing for them. But if you feel like an outsider and like this place isn’t a good fit for you, you’re the only one who can change that. Packing up a few cardboard boxes can be very liberating. Even if you don’t have the intention of moving, knowing you have a few cardboard boxes ready to go gives you the confidence to push forward if you have to.
This independence will allow you to expand your horizons and your ideas. It will force you to figure out places and people in your new home. When you live around the same people your whole life you become complacent. A new place forces you to change old habits and welcome new habits into your life. This can ultimately change your entire life and put you on the fast track to happiness.
