If you want ultra-low latency open-ear earbuds specifically optimized for gaming, meetings, and multi-device multitasking with a focus on situational awareness, choose Cleer ARC II Gaming; if you need a complete wireless travel bundle with active noise cancellation to block out airplane engines and office chatter, choose Avantree Relay.
• Cleer ARC II Gaming: Delivers an open-ear design with 35 hours of battery life and sub-67ms latency, making it ideal for gamers and remote workers who need to hear their surroundings. Trade-off: It lacks active noise cancellation, relying instead on open-ear transparency. Best for: People prioritizing comfort during long calls or gaming sessions where hearing ambient sound is crucial.
• Avantree Relay: Offers a unique two-part system (transmitter + ANC earbuds) that plugs directly into 3.5mm jacks for flights and includes six-microphone active noise cancellation. Trade-off: The earbuds are not designed as standalone open-ear devices, and the system is less focused on native low-latency gaming without a specific dongle setup. Best for: Travelers and commuters who need to block out loud environments like airplanes or busy trains.
The Cleer ARC II Gaming is built for a very specific type of user: someone who needs high-fidelity audio without isolating themselves from the room. Its open-ear design with adjustable soft ear hooks means you can wear these for hours without the pressure of in-ear buds causing fatigue. This is particularly relevant for professionals who spend their day in video conferences. The Qualcomm clear Voice capture technology ensures your voice comes through crystal clear even if there is background noise, which is a non-negotiable feature for anyone working remotely or attending critical business calls. You don't have to worry about the "boxy" sound often associated with cheap conference headsets because the dynamic drivers push a frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, delivering rich detail.
For the gamer or the tech enthusiast, the 35-hour total battery life is a game-changer. With 8 hours on the earbuds alone and an additional 27 hours provided by the charging case, you can go days without hunting for a charger. The inclusion of a USB-C dongle is a smart move for PC and console users, ensuring that latency stays under 67ms. This level of synchronization is vital when you are playing fast-paced titles on PS4 or Switch, or streaming movies where lip-sync issues would be distracting. Furthermore, Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio and aptX Adaptive allows you to connect to two devices simultaneously. I frequently switch between my laptop for work and my phone for personal calls; this multipoint pairing handles that seamless transition without me having to manually disconnect and reconnect every time.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you work in a noisy coffee shop or a bustling airport terminal and need silence to focus, the open-ear design will let all that noise in. There is no active noise cancellation here. Instead, it relies on bone conduction principles and open architecture to keep you aware of your environment. While this is perfect for safety and situational awareness while walking or cycling, it makes the Cleer ARC II Gaming a poor choice for those seeking total immersion in a chaotic environment. Additionally, while it works with many platforms, it is explicitly noted as not compatible with PS5, so console gamers must check their hardware before purchasing.

The Avantree Relay system takes a completely different approach, focusing on versatility and isolation rather than open-ear transparency. This bundle includes the Relay transmitter and the Infinity NC earbuds, creating a self-contained wireless solution that solves the age-old problem of connecting to old-school 3.5mm audio sources. The most compelling use case here is air travel. By plugging the Relay into an airplane's entertainment jack, you can instantly turn a wired seatback screen into a wireless listening experience. This eliminates the frustration of tangled wires and the discomfort of airline-provided headphones. The six-microphone active noise cancelling system is the star of the show here, effectively reducing the drone of jet engines and the murmur of passengers, allowing you to watch movies or listen to music in peace.
Beyond the plane, the Avantree Relay is designed for heavy travelers and commuters who face inconsistent audio environments. The earbuds support aptX Adaptive low-latency audio, which helps deliver clear sound with synchronized audio when used together with the transmitter. This makes them suitable for watching TV shows on compatible TVs or using them with PCs, provided you have the right source connection. The ability to pair with Auracast broadcasts also future-proofs the device for public address systems that adopt this new standard. The Infinity NC earbuds are versatile enough to work with phones, PCs, and other Bluetooth devices, making them a solid daily driver for anyone who needs to shut out the world.
That said, the Avantree Relay has limitations that prevent it from being a universal pick. The system requires the transmitter to function optimally with the 3.5mm jack, meaning it cannot natively connect to modern smartphones or laptops via Bluetooth for general audio playback without an adapter or specific compatibility. The description notes it does not work with TVs, phones, assistive listening devices, musical instruments, or real-time monitoring in its standard configuration, which limits its utility for musicians or users with specific legacy setups. Furthermore, while the battery life is decent, it does not match the sheer endurance of the Cleer ARC II Gaming's 35-hour total capacity. If you are looking for a dedicated gaming headset with zero lag for competitive play, this system might feel slightly less responsive compared to a purpose-built gaming earbud with a dedicated low-latency dongle.
• Best for long battery life → Cleer ARC II Gaming (35 hours total vs. limited transmitter/earbud combo runtime).
• Best for blocking out loud environments → Avantree Relay (Active Noise Cancellation vs. open-ear transparency).
• Best for gaming on consoles/PC → Cleer ARC II Gaming (Ultra-low latency under 67ms with USB-C dongle).
• Best for air travel → Avantree Relay (Direct 3.5mm plug-in capability for seatback screens).
• Best for multi-device multitasking → Cleer ARC II Gaming (Native multipoint pairing for laptop and phone).
• Best for situational awareness → Cleer ARC II Gaming (Open-ear design keeps you aware of surroundings).
• Best for isolated focus in offices → Avantree Relay (Six-mic ANC reduces office chatter).
• Best value for a single device ecosystem → Cleer ARC II Gaming (Standalone earbuds vs. separate transmitter bundle).
I would buy the Cleer ARC II Gaming for my own daily use, especially since I prioritize being available for meetings throughout the workday. The open-ear design allows me to stay connected to my family and environment while still enjoying high-quality audio, and the 35-hour battery life means I rarely think about charging. The ultra-low latency is a massive plus for my evening gaming sessions, ensuring I never miss a beat in VR or on the Switch. While the Avantree Relay is a clever travel tool, the lack of active noise cancellation on the Cleer is a trade-off I am willing to make for the superior comfort and connectivity options it offers for professional and recreational use alike. For anyone looking for the best headphones for meetings that don't isolate them from the room, the Cleer ARC II Gaming is the clear winner.
No, they do not have active noise cancellation. They use an open-ear design to provide situational awareness, though they do feature noise echo cancelling for clearer voice transmission during calls.
The Avantree Relay transmitter connects to 3.5mm audio sources. While the earbuds can pair with iPhones via Bluetooth for direct use, the Relay transmitter itself is designed to plug into older 3.5mm ports, such as those found on airplane entertainment systems or older TVs.
The Cleer ARC II Gaming offers up to 35 hours of total playtime with its charging case, providing significantly longer endurance than the Avantree Relay system for continuous daily use.
