Our farm has a special place in my heart and I hope each visitor will find their own joy here too.
The Farm
The farmland has been in our family for over 50 years as home to 3 generations. The land held 2 homes, 3 barns, a grainery, and other farm buildings. Many of the original structures were built by my father, Lonnie Whitley, who lived on and operated this farm complete with chickens, cows, goats, dogs, and miniature horses. He was a minister by trade but a self-taught, go-getter when it came to farming. His motivation and passion for life inspired many in our community, including myself. As his only child, I was his right-hand and gained an appreciation for life, caring for animals, and hard work. I have fond memories of gathering feed for the cows from the grainery, feeding calves their milk every morning before school, and collecting eggs from the chickens. These experiences shaped me into the person I am today and I hope all who visit experience the magic down on the farm.
The Venue
Lonnie Whitley was the pastor of North Stanly Baptist Church for many years. He designed and built, along with members of the congregation, the church they gathered in on this farmland. It served the church body in many ways including for weekly worship, baptisms in the pond, yearly vacation bible school, and weddings (I even married my husband there in 1979). It was a small church, but served the community well until approximately 2007.
The Farm
In renovating this family treasure, we wanted to preserve the structural integrity and repurpose materials from the original buildings for the remodel. The grainery door (pictured above) that once led to food for the animals, now leads to the heart of the home as the door to the kitchen. Wood from the grainery and barn were repurposed for the walls in the den, master bedroom, first bedroom, and basement. While we remodeled the kitchen, gave the walls fresh paint, and updated the decor, the structure and floorplan of the house remains as it stood from the original build in 1964.
The Venue
The renovations for the old church and fellowship hall are still in progress. Our vision is to provide a modern, rustic space for weddings and events. There will be indoor and outdoor spaces available to meet different event needs.
