In Europe, there is a number of organizations that have gathered researchers and professionals related to the area of Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing and Language Resources. These organizations vary in scope, aims and in some cases focus but, to our knowledge, all share the interest of promoting language technologies in their respective country among postgraduate students, researchers and professionals of the area.
Despite of these common scope and interests, these organizations work in a rather isolated and fragmented way and do not have any forum where they can share information or propose common activities at a European level.
The CLEARA-MEET workshop is designed as a collaboration session where informal discussions will take place so as to share expectations and suggestions for creating a framework for improving communication and collaboration among existing organizations in Europe.
In the CLEARA-MEET workshop, existing organizations are invited to present their activities, discuss about common interests and evaluate the possibility of establishing an alliance of national / regional associations with a specific view to:
Representatives of the national, regional or broader associations operating in the area of Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing and Language Resources are invited to submit position statements that provide insights for possible coordination actions and that can be discussed and refined.
The outcome of the workshop will be a report gathering the description of involved organizations, the position statements and a first roadmap towards a European collaboration agenda. This report will be used as a basis for setting up collaboration activities and will be disseminated online.
