Our Goals
The North Star
The North Star
To put it simply:
Save the world or die trying. (our slogan)
Basically, our group spreads awareness to people through social media sites like Instagram and Discord. We then work to connect them with resources to help them take individual action & reduce their environmental impact. Simultaneously, we encourage them to sign petitions and participate in other shows of activism to continue placing pressure on governments and corporations.
For a more in-depth explanation, see below.
Our first goal is to spread awareness about the issues of climate change and plastic pollution and to get people to recognize these as problems. After all, the first step to solving a problem is recognizing there is one!
Most people do recognize that this is an issue, but have difficulty finding easy and cost-efficient ways to help. "Seventy per cent of adults in the US say they are willing to take action on climate, but 51% say they don’t know where to start." (Excerpt from the Guardian) We've got many suggestions and resources.
We'd like to grow this initiative large enough that our concerns are heard globally, specifically in politics.
All in all, our primary objective is to help mitigate the crises of climate change, environmental destruction, and plastic pollution.
New Goals (For schools)
We would like to see if schools have the means to install water bottle refill stations, switch to biodegradable/reusable cutlery, etc.
Schools use a lot of paper. Why don't most of them have recycling? We would like to figure out a way to organize recycling services for schools that do not already have them.
UPDATE: Upon calling a school's District Office, we've found that these district's schools use something called a MRF - a Mixed Recycling Facility. This means that all the waste is taken to a facility to be sorted and then recycled, which is why there isn't a separate bin for recycling. However, it's likely that most recyclable materials get contaminated with the trash and are thrown away.
UPDATE 2: We were able to implement COMPOSTING at a school & are continuing work on eliminating plastics etc. Stay tuned!
