Usually, when I started classes I would bring a notebook (or loose-leaf paper) to write down notes or tips, a pencil case (pen, pencil, highlighter), a folder, and a book bag.

Tip: Check your emails and read/print your syllabus before class that way you have an idea of what you will be doing in class and when the professor reviews the material will know what he is talking about.
