Rhinebeck Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery
In the middle of Rhinebeck village stands the Rhinebeck Dutch Reformed Church, founded in 1731. For some of our chapter Daughters, those who helped found this church were family. They served as its pastors, elders, and other officials, they owned pews that still carry their names, and they worshipped within its walls. Many of our chapter members still worship here today.
The church's small but historic cemetery is remarkable for being the known resting place for at least 44 veterans of the American Revolutionary War. Most of these veterans were Rhinebeck residents and all survived the war. Many are our Patriot ancestors.
Revolutionary War Markers
All these honored dead deserve to be remembered. To that end, on May 24, 2015, our chapter held a marker dedication ceremony during which each known Patriot grave site was marked with a United States Revolutionary War Veteran marker.
In addition, a bronze Daughters of the American Revolution plaque was dedicated in May 2016.
Meet the 44
The booklet "44 Patriots of the American Revolution..." was produced for the occasion of the marker dedication and provided to donors, local schools, libraries and sponsors of the individual markers.
This booklet lists the Patriots with brief biographies about their service and lives. A PDF version of this booklet is available for download here.
