Grades are updated as often as possible in PowerSchool. Please check grades frequently and regularly. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about a particular grade. This can be done before school or after school and via email.
Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions and activities. Non-participation of any sort is unacceptable and may result in disciplinary action. Student participation is just one of the major ways teachers observe student progress and mastery and is extremely important!
Students will maintain a respectful and positive attitude toward themselves, classmates, and the teacher. We may not always agree, but we can always be respectful toward each other.
Students will be prepared for class. This means having completed the due homework assignments (including readings!), bringing the correct materials to class, and being ready to learn when the bell rings.
Be on time.
Maintain a clean classroom by throwing away food, drink, and trash in proper receptacles.
Stay awake, alert, and active.
Electronic devices may only be used with prior permission. Abuse of this privilege may result in device confiscation and disciplinary action.
You are responsible for keeping all graded work. DO NOT throw away graded assignments until AFTER you receive report cards. I will not change grades unless there is physical proof I have graded an assignment.
Late work is only accepted during the quarter it has been assigned. For each day an assignment is late, 5 points are deducted off of the final grade of the assignment. Work turned in late will not be entered into the gradebook until all other assignments are entered.
LIFE HAPPENS! If you are having trouble at home or school and you realize you need extra time, it is your responsibility to come to me as soon as possible. You must come to me at least 3 days before a major assignment is due and at least one day before a hw/cs assignment is due.
Assignments are to be typed unless otherwise given permission. All typed assignments are to follow MLA format. (Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, proper header and heading)
When a student fails a quiz, they MAY have the opportunity to re-take the quiz, but only during the time we are covering that material. For example, if a student fails a quiz on Unit 1 material, the student has until we take the Unit 1 test to retake the quiz. The student MUST fill out and submit a retake request form (see this in the student section of this website) at least 24 hours before the requested retake date.
When a student fails a test, they can only retake the test IF they received a 59 or below. On the retake, students may only make a maximum grade of a 60. This is in accordance with BHS policy.
When absent, the student is responsible for checking the absence log online to find out what he/she missed. I will not seek out the students to provide missing work.
Students absent 1 class period have a total of 3 DAYS to turn in late work and complete assessments before points are deducted.
Students absent 1+ class periods have a total of 5 DAYS to turn in late work and complete assessments before points are deducted.
Any assignment you are absent for will be entered as a zero until it is completed and graded.
Students who were absent during an assessment MUST fill out and submit a make-up request form found in the student section of this website. Students must make-up assessments before we begin the next unit. For example, if a student is absent when we take a quiz on Unit 1 material, then she only has until we take the Unit 1 test to make-up that quiz.
If your assignment was due while you were absent and I have given you permission, you may submit your assignment electronically. Please check with me before doing so as there are some assignments that are required to be printed.
Plagiarism is the knowing or unknowing theft of ideas or writings of another and passing them off as one's own. Students found plagiarizing any part of an assignment, regardless of how small, will NOT BE GIVEN CREDIT and will NOT be allowed to re-do the assignment or retake the assessment. Plagiarism includes:
copying phrases, verbage, or text from a website or other resource
copying phrases, sentences, or ideas from another student, classmate, or a parent
turning in someone else's work as your own (no matter how much or how little of the work was copied)
failing to cite a source
using phrasing or sentences from a website as your own
I will Google anything that doesn't sound like YOUR words.
We will be using a website called Turnitin.com. This website is useful as it catches intentional and unintentional plagiarism. It also helps students understand how to balance research with their own writing within an assignment.
Cheating includes:
talking, gesturing, whispering, making faces or bodily movements toward another student or in class during an assessment
sharing assessment answers at any time without express permission from the teacher
sharing answers for any assignment at any time without express permission from the teacher
working collaboratively on any assignment without express permission from the teacher
Cheating will result in a zero for the assignment, even if a student has already turned in the test/quiz.
Administration and parents will be notified if a student is found cheating.
If cheating happens more than once, the student will then be isolated for all future assessments, which may include having to stay after or come before school to complete the work.
Students involved in cheating/committing plagiarism may not be allowed to participate in the re-do policy.
Students found cheating/committing plagiarism may not be allowed to participate in Amnesty Day.
Students found cheating/committing plagiarism may not be allowed to participate in other school activities.
Students are expected to complete assignments correctly the first time. This expectation includes following directions. Students who fail to follow directions or complete the assignment correctly will receive point deductions.
Students must first submit a retake request form (see student section of this website) in order to be able to retake any assessment (quiz/test).
Students may re-take a quiz for unit during the time we are covering the unit material regardless of the grade.
On any re-takes or re-dos, students can earn back up to a 100.
Students may be given a '1' on an assignment for not following directions or for not completing an assignment correctly. For any assignment that receives a '1', students are expected to re-do the assignment and turn in BOTH COPIES.
Both copies of an assignment must be turned in for a re-do to be re-graded.
Any student who is found cheating or plagiarizing during the semester will not be allowed to re-do an assignment.
Thus, any assignment this student turns in for the remainder of the semester that does not follow directions will be given a ZERO.
Re-dos must be turned in by the given quarter due date in order to be re-graded.
Students may re-do assignments as often or as frequent as they desire during the provided time frame.
Late assignments may receive a '1' instead of late-point deductions on a case-by-case basis.
