Remember that comics are a team effort...usually. (Webtoons might be a bit different.)
1. Research
Find which genres your group is interested in. Maybe you like slice-of-life or action or superheroes! Find out what makes you like them. How are the layouts designed? How are they framed? What sort of design are you interested in?
2. Check your expectations (and your strengths)
Find what strengths you have. Who will be your artists? Your writers? Your editors? See your limitations. Don't attempt Joe Quesada-level art if you don't have any artists who can take it that far.
3. Come up with a concept.
Come up with a few concepts and create a pitch. Design a few characters. Come up with a rough idea of the story.Â
4. Pitch it to the Editor-In-Chief
Propose the comic to your EIC,if this step applies. If not, throw the idea around with some friends.
5. Storyboard and Storycraft
Build your story. Storyboard if you want to. Plan out your panels and begin creating the plan.
6. Art It Out
Begin penciling your comic. Before you move to inking, submit a draft to your editor-in-chief and your group's editor or some friends who will be honest with you. Check the story and the art. Make sure there is a flow to the story, and make sure that the art is not a hindrance.
7. Ink and Color
Once your penciling has been completed, begin inking and coloring. Then have your network check it out again.
8. Lettering
Fill in your speech bubbles. Submit it to the EIC and Editor.
9. Final Edits
Fix any potential errors, and then put your comic out there in the world!
10. Repeat Steps 5-9 until you've finished your comic!
As much as I would love to GUSH over the different people who make comics possible, why would I talk about it when you can hear about it from the professionals!
