Marketing Competition

Competition is the rivalry between companies trying to sell products to customers (i.e. make a profit). There are three types of competitors: direct, indirect and replacement.

Direct Competitors sell similar products to similar customers. For example, a direct competitor of Vans is Converse.

Indirect Competitors sell similar products to different customers. For example, an indirect competitor of Vans is rubber boots.

Replacement Products are products that are completely different, but that can be purchased by similar customers. For example, a hoodie is a replacement product for Vans.

Class activity: Find and save an image of a product, one direct competitor, one indirect competitor and one replacement product for it. Create a collage using PicsArt or Canva. Upload this to your website. Below, label the different types of competitors.
