Purpose of the Consultation
This complimentary one-hour consultation is designed to help you gain clarity about your project before making development decisions. The session focuses on understanding your objectives, evaluating your current situation, and identifying possible next steps. It is intended to support informed planning rather than immediate execution.
Richard Carlton Consulting offers new clients a free one-hour session conducted by a senior engineer. The consultation is centered on preparation and evaluation, not hands-on development or system changes.
The primary goal is to understand your requirements, discuss technical considerations, and outline an initial direction that you can review internally before proceeding further.
Outcomes After the Session
Following the consultation, the recommended next step will depend on the complexity of your project. In some cases, a high-level roadmap is sufficient to outline direction and priorities. In other cases, a more detailed implementation plan may be required.
When accurate pricing cannot be determined without additional analysis, a structured discovery phase is recommended. This phase produces a refined proposal that defines scope, approach, and technical requirements clearly enough to support realistic cost and timeline estimates.
Technical Review During the Consultation
As part of the session, the senior engineer may conduct a high-level review of your database servers and existing databases. This review is intended to identify significant issues that may not be immediately visible during day-to-day use.
It is common for this review to uncover gaps or risks resulting from earlier development efforts. These issues often stem from limited database expertise or from solutions that were not built following established best practices.
