The idea came in 1969 when Bette Andruscavage was having coffee in her kitchen with Nancy and Ruth Schopf. Based on that meeting, Nancy formed the Clarence Book Review Club.
The purpose of the club was to focus on new writers, to keep them established and to keep Clarence residents aware of new trends in American letters. Nancy Schopf was a history teacher at Clarence Highschool. She felt there were many very well educated and knowledgeable women in the town who were interested in books. Nancy decided they needed a book club and formed the Clarence Book Review Club.
The book club provides a forum for those persons interested in books. Meetings are held starting at 10:30 AM in the Town Park Club House, the first Wednesday of the month with the exception of January, July and August.
