What We Stand For
Wage Gap
The gender wage gap is the difference in earnings between men and women. Many studies show that women earn significantly less than men. On average, women earn 82 cents for every 1 dollar men earn. That's an 18% difference in wage (Bleiweis). There are many reasons that may cause this wage gap, for example differences in experience, work, industries, but sex discrimination is a large factor. The C.L.A.P. Party does not support the discrimination of any group of people for any reason, so we support the reduction and gradual elimination of the gender wage gap.
Abortion Rights
There are two main sides to abortion debates: pro-life and pro-choice. The pro-choice stance believes that if a woman does not want to or cannot provide for a child then they should not be forced into having one. The opposing party, pro-life, wants to preserve all living humans, including the embryo inside the mother's womb. However, according to Planned Parenthood, this side seems to care much less about the welfare of the woman that is now forced to care for this newborn child (Planned Parenthood). We agree with this perception. Women have basic human rights, one of which is for them to be able to do whatever they please with their body, including deciding whether they want to have a child or not. We believe in choice.
Illegal Immigrant Rights
There are many injustices that are committed against illegal immigrants in the United States. Some of these mistreatments include the lack of a hearing when on trial, no legal counsel when sent to court, and unauthorized search and seizure of immigrants at the U.S. border. We want every person in the United States to be treated as humans, and pass more legislation that gives illegal immigrants rights, like that children that immigrate illegally have the right to attend school (Frazee). We want to improve the standards for illegal immigrant equality to make sure everyone in this nation is treated fairly.
Citizenship Barrier Policies
Becoming a citizen is an emotional experience for every immigrant, as it is a major gateway into having a sustainable job and a prosperous life in this country. However, most immigrants never get this opportunity. The biggest hurdle is that the price to file a citizenship application is $750, which is higher than most immigrants can afford to pay (Immigration Policy Lab). Without citizenship, it is next to impossible for immigrants to have social mobility, sequestering them into poverty. In order to lift immigrants out of poverty, C.L.A.P. will be lowering the application price so that more immigrants will have the ability to prosper in America.
Income Equality
Did you know that America's top 10% hold more than 9 times the amount of money as the bottom 90% of people, and have about 39 times the yearly income? What is even worse is that the top 0.1% makes 196 times more income than the rest of the population (Inequality.org). This is incredibly skewed, and we at C.L.A.P. are appalled that the government has allowed such a disparity to occur. We do not want everyone to have the same income, but we also cannot allow a small piece of the population to hoard an incredibly large portion of the wealth. We support higher progressive income taxes, as well as better low-income welfare plans for reducing the income disparity.
Healthcare Equity
Healthcare inequity is the difference in healthcare accessibility of different people. Many people in the United States do not have access to safe housing, clean water, fresh food, and more (Medical News Today). All of these hazards impact health, and people in poverty are not likely to be able to pay for healthcare, making their unfortunate living conditions even worse. We want everyone to have the right to be healthy, so we want to lower the barriers to affordable healthcare, making it more accessible for our impoverished populations or anyone that needs serious medical care.
