Claire Postlethwaite

I am a Professor in Applied Mathematics at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I was awarded my PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2006, and moved to New Zealand after two years of post-docs in the USA.

My background is in the area of applied dynamical systems, but my interests range from theoretical studies of differential equations to using applications of mathematics to understand animal behaviour and navigation. My research has resulted in several awards, including the New Zealand Mathematics Society Early Career Award for Mathematical Research (2011), the University of Auckland’s Early Career Research Excellence Award (2013), and the Mitchell Medal from the Australia-New Zealand Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (2018).

I am currently a Principal Investigator with the Centre of Research Excellence, Te Pūnaha Matatini, and until recently was an External Fellow of the London Mathematical Laboratory.

I currently hold a Royal Society of New Zealand Te Apārangi Marsden grant to investigate mathematical models of networks of intransitive competition.
