Claire Holston is a wife, dog mom, daughter, sister, auntie, friend and neighbor. She has lived in Milford most recently since 2001, having lived here previously from 1991-1999. Born and raised in Connecticut, Claire began playing competitive basketball in the fourth grade. Her commitment to basketball and years of hard work earned her a full basketball scholarship to Bentley College (now Bentley University), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
After graduating from college, Claire began her corporate career with Digital Equipment Corporation (now HP). While building her career, Claire continued in her education, earning her MBA before relocating to San Diego in 1999 to join NCR Corporation.
In 2001, Claire and her wife moved home to New Hampshire, settling in Milford, where Claire resumed her career at HP. In 2003, she left HP to become a small business owner, establishing a business built around her passion for personal training and fitness. At the same time, she worked for New Hampshire Citizen Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting accountability and honesty in New Hampshire government.
In 2005, Claire joined BAE Systems in Nashua, where she worked until taking early retirement at the end of 2021. Since retiring, she has continued in her personal training business while dedicating significant time to volunteer service and causes that strengthen her community.
From a very early age, Claire was involved in social justice issues – beginning as a member of the United Methodist Youth group and later becoming President. Throughout her life, her intention has been to serve various communities both in and out of work. Claire was a founding member of the Nashua NAACP and later went on to become President. Within the United Methodist Church, both locally and within the New England Area Conference, Claire has held a variety of positions that include: Co-Chair of the social justice group, member of a reconciling church in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, member of the finance committee and the Chair of the Staff Parish Relations committee. At the New England level, Claire has served as a member of the Commission on Religion and Race, the Vision Forward Team, the Strategic Implementation Team, has served as a delegate for the NEAC UMC, and is a member of the World Church Council.
Outside of her spiritual life, Claire volunteers her time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Abused and Neglected children (CASA/Ad Litem) and has been the voice for the children in the courtroom for 11+ years.
Claire was also a member of the Race and Equity series in New Hampshire where she served on the healthcare work group and facilitated the Law Enforcement Criminal Justice work group. She has also served as a member of the Ethnic and Racial Disparities Subcommittee of the Juvenile Justice System and assisted in the creation of an 8-hour New Hampshire Police Force training, which was well received by New Hampshire PD. Claire is currently on the board of the Granite State Organizing Project (GSOP), Granite State Interfaith Action Fund Committee, and is Board Chair of the New Hampshire Center for Justice and Equity.
Claire believes that one of her roles in life is to serve and work to make the world a better place; she always strives to make a positive difference wherever she is. Claire's drive to make her communities a better place has brought her here: her campaign for State Representative.
Claire has lived in Milford NH for 30+ years and has been a member of the Town Transfer Station committee, Milford Social Service Warrant Article Committee, the GSOP Souhegan Valley where she advocated for and supported improvements to the sidewalks, and she participated in the Library Improvement Project.
Claire's core values shine through in more than just her professional life. Her leadership is built on a strong foundation of integrity, honesty, and authenticity.
In her spare time, she can be found adventuring with her wife, Janet, and their Siberian Huskies. Claire enjoys caring for her lawn and tending to her many veggie gardens. She loves to bowl, golf, fish, watch the NFL, and is a huge fan of the WNBA.
