Open to students in grade 6. It is the first stage to a successful education in instrumental music. Performance in any music education program, of which band is a part, is not an end in itself. It is the ideal medium through which students can develop the understanding that will lead to an appreciation of music having aesthetic (artistic and emotional) value, self-expression, and creativity that they can apply to every facet of their lives. Beginning band meets on a regular basis for rehearsals and small group instruction. After the first year, students will advance into the middle school Concert Band.
September Expectations Letter-coming soon
Band rehearsal and concert are not extra-curricular activities; they are extensions of the academic classroom. Therefore, students are expected to attend these necessary events. Since a student registers for the class understanding that they must participate in the concerts, the teacher may lower grades for inexcusable absences. All attendance procedures will adhere to the school's attendance policy.
