I love combining my training in political science and my artistic skills to create original book covers!
I take a collaborative approach to designing and producing academic book covers. My commission process typically begins with a consultation to chat through ideas and a proposal with rates and a timeline. In the process, I will:
Create a shared Pinterest board where we can generate ideas together and decide on color palettes.
Visually interpret your main contribution (novel theory, empirics, critique, etc.) in a succinct, accurate way.
Produce an original illustration of your book cover that you can frame! I work almost entirely with traditional media (watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, pen & ink), with digital used for minor touch-ups and color corrections.
Deliver a high-resolution digital file that your publisher can use for final production.
Promote your book (and my art) in my networks!
If you're an academic who wants your hard-earned book to stand out, I'd love to get in touch!

Tanika Raychaudhuri (Rice University) examines the political socialization of Asian Americans, the fastest-growing racial group in the United States and a growing constituency in American politics. Arguing against existing theories about family influence and experiences of social exclusion, Raychaudhuri argues that Asian Americans learn about politics and form partisan views through their peers -- what she calls "social transmission."
From Tanika: "Claire is a wonderful artist and I was thrilled to commission her for a cover image for my academic book! She designed and painted a beautiful image, which creatively illustrates key themes from my book. I am very happy with the final product and appreciated her collaborative approach on the commission. She put a lot of thought and care into developing the piece so that it aligns with themes from the book. She was also very responsive to my questions and feedback. I had a great experience with this commission and strongly recommend Claire's work."
