I have developed a strong research team with expertise in Nursing, Psychology, and Medicine to develop and test a clinically usable EEG data acquisition system that will enable detection of significant pictures
(photos) that elicit brain activity. Studies have demonstrated that Electroencephalography (EEG) can be used to measure the involvement of the brain’s neural network including the emotional response to
visual stimuli. There is considerable potential to use EEG in identifying key neural aspects of response in areas of interest in the brain to better target therapy for people with dementia, however this has not
been undertaken to date. Once this system has undergone preliminary testing, Reminiscence Therapy (RT) for individuals with dementia and mild cognitive impairment will then be undertaken to evaluate
the effectiveness of this device from a clinical perspective.
Another area of EEG research that we've been conducting is the use of brain computer interfaces to enable individuals with cerebral palsy to access computers. We've been testing commercial systems to better understand how people interact with the BCI and how we can better develop training strategies.
