Jaume Suau is Professor at Ramon Llull University, where he serves as the Head of the DIGILAB research group. He currently leads the Spanish team of the Media Pluralism Monitor and coordinates the Media Councils in the Digital Age project, both of which are funded by the European Commission (EC). His research focuses on media freedom, pluralism, and the impact of disinformation in Western societies. He is also an Associate Editor of the academic journal Journalism Practice.
Rubén Míguez is a key figure in the field of automated fact-checking. He currently serves as CTO for the companies Newtral and INAR.IA, leading teams focused on creating innovative AI-driven automated fact-checking solutions.
With a PhD in Telecommunications from the University of Vigo, an MBA from the School of Industrial Organization, and experience as an entrepreneur in tech startups, his professional profile has centered on building new markets through the latest technological advancements. Currently, its main focus of work is on developing autonomous and intelligent verification agents capable of analyzing vast amounts of information, identifying patterns, engaging in discussions with one another, and making real-time decisions to combat misinformation in the digital age.
Horacio Saggion is chair in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Information & Communication Technologies, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, Spain. He is the director of the TALN Natural Language Processing Group and LaSTUS Lab where he directs research in several areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP) automatic text summarization, text simplification, NLP for Sign Languages, information extraction, figurative language, sentiment analysis and related topics. Horacio is the coordinator of the Horizon Europe iDEM project on democracy, inclusion, and accessibility.
Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Pompeu Fabra University. She has worked as a Senior Advisor on various public and private sector AI projects for UN Women LAC, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Organization of American States (OAS). Her work focuses on the social impact and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence (AI), AI literacy and social inclusion in technologies. She was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) for five years in the areas of AI for health and disinformation and was a visiting researcher at Columbia University (2016) and Stanford University (2022).
Buslón holds a PhD and a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Barcelona (Cum Laude) and is a Marketing Analyst from the University of the Enterprise (UDE). She is an Ambassador for Women in Data Science Stanford in Barcelona, a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and the <A+> Alliance for Inclusive Algorithms. She has been appointed by UNESCO to the Women for Ethical Artificial Intelligence platform.
Sonia Parratt is a senior lecturer in Journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid. She has a degree in Journalism from the University of the Basque Country and a European PhD in Journalism from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Her research focuses on news writing, generative artificial intelligence, climate change, and the intersection of journalism and literature. She is currently the principal investigator of the three-year project entitled “Implications of GenAI for journalistic content: professional practice, audience perceptions, and teaching challenges”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Innovation, Science and Universities.
Saliu Djau is a Master's student in Digital Technologies for Business. He holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and postgraduate degrees in Crisis and Humanitarian Action, as well as Digital Technologies for Management. Currently, he is a Project Manager at the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, responsible for the areas of Investigations into Disinformation Dynamics and Research- Studies & Sandboxes within the Fund.
Prior to joining the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Djau worked in the banking sector, holding positions as a Management Support Officer and ESG Data & Digital Project Manager.
Rolf Nijmeijer is a Research Associate at the EUI – Florence School of Transnational Governance and the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF). Rolf holds a PhD in political science, from the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli (LUISS), where he analysed foreign information operations on Twitter. With this background, and his strong interest in disinformation, propaganda and information operations, he helps to identify future project and research priorities for the Fund through the analysis of current trends in (counter-)disinformation.
Luis Espinosa-Anke received is the head of R&D at AMPLYFI and a senior lecturer in Cardiff University. He is interested in practical applications of language technologies and computational semantics, and the the development and validation of LLM-based applications. From an application perspective, he is interested in applying AI techniques to modeling social media content, addressing critical challenges in the misinformation space, and the development of multilingual technologies for language learning.
