May 2026 update: The leadership team at Clackamas County Showing Up for Racial Justice (CC SURJ) has chosen to disaffiliate from SURJ National. The reasons for this decision have to do with SURJ National's years-long trend of focusing on electoral politics rather than grassroots racial justice actions and providing quality on-the-ground organizing support to chapters. Additionally, in 2026, SURJ National asked chapters to sign legal charter documentation, which we do not believe provide enough security for individual leadership team members, as well as ask for annual reporting and other tasks for which that our small leadership team do not have capacity.
That said, do not fret! We have done amazing work over the last 10 years to build community, strong relationships, meaningful actions, and organizing foundations, so our work will continue. Individual members will still stay active with our accountability partners, including Pacific Northwest Family Circle, the Clackamas County Equity Coalition, and Respond to Racism, and Oregon City Pride.
