The significance of clothing waste is rapidly growing, and without actively trying to help prevent as much clothing pollution it will only grow more and create more damage to the environment from all of the waste. As lots of clothing items today contain plastic that can take generations to break down and decompose, along with other unnatural materials used to make the pieces, which leads to a large carbon footprint when left in the environment.
In 2018, there were 17 million tons of clothing waste while landfills had to take in 11.3 millions tons of the clothing waste.
Most common clothing materials today are not made with the same sustainable fabrics as the 60s, so as a result clothing waste is rapidly growing and taking over landfills
