'The process of learning through English for academic purposes involves two goals: 1) gaining English proficiency to a high level of near-native fluency and 2) the ability to carry out complex, higher-order thinking processes in English. Success with these goals ultimately comes down to vocabulary.'

Keep in mind that IB English B does not have a fixed or official vocabulary list. This is a vocabulary list that I have created, including words that you are most likely to come across in IB English B. These words have been compiled based on IB English B textbooks published by Cambridge, Oxford, Hodder, and Pearson, all of which are approved by the IB.
During the exam, you will almost certainly encounter words you have never seen before. In these situations, you will need to infer (infer:文脈や自分がすでに知っている情報をもとに、意味を推測すること) the meaning.
The word list is organised according to the five IB English B themes and their sub-themes.
Each entry also includes:
a synonym (synonym:似ている意味を持つ単語), and
an example sentence that shows how the word is used in context.
You are encouraged to use this vocabulary list to strengthen your writing for Paper 1, as well as to learn new words that will support your understanding of Paper 2 Reading and Listening tasks. You may also use this vocabulary in your IA (Internal Assessment).
