I was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria—Canary Islands, Spain. I attended Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola and earned a BA in Economics from Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Upon graduation, I moved to Madrid and enrolled in a two-year MA program in Industrial Economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The next year I switched to the PhD Program in Economics.
I moved back to Gran Canaria as postdoctoral researcher with the EIT Group, and then to Chile as postdoctoral research fellow at the UC School of Management. In Chile I also worked at Universidad Diego Portales and at Universidad Finis Terrae.
I am the fifth of six brothers and sisters, and the proud uncle of a nephew and a niece. I am single with no children.
