our hotel blocks (open until Aug. 3rd) are right next to the Mississippi River and a short bus ride away from the venue (15-20 min on the 10)! we might also do the thursday after-party at that bar if we have a good group of people there :)
we also recommend looking in these neighborhoods:
northeast minneapolis - this is the neighborhood sociable cider werks is in, but there aren't many places to stay
downtown minneapolis - 30 minutes on public transit, 10ish minutes by lyft/uber to sociable cider werks
dinkytown - near the university of minnesota minneapolis campus, also about 30 minutes on public transit
powderhorn / central / corcoran / longfellow - we live in this area, it's harder to get to sociable on public transit but about 15-20ish minutes on lyft/uber, there aren't many places to stay but we love it
we planned this party for a thursday evening so that you could take a very long weekend and have a nice vacation / excuse to hang out with friends you don't always see, and with any new friends you make at our party. so, that being said, you do not have to hang out with us the whole weekend!Â
with the low key hope that you will move here and/or visit us more in the future 😎:
here are some other things you can do in the twin cities (not exhaustive by any means)
the minnesota state fair is happening! it is a big deal and definitely worth going to if you love spectacle and fun weird food
unfortunately, the WNBA season is over :( I hear there are other sports teams, but I cannot tell you who is in season: the timberwolves, twins, loons, vikings, others. there are also some fun sports bars -- a bar of their own (women's sports), and black hart (lgbtq+ soccer) are just examples.
theatre is really really big in minneapolis, so if you like theatre, it may be worth checking out. here is a place to start.
during the prohibition era, moonshine was run out of the wabasha caves in st. paul - you can tour them here!
what we actually do the most here is eat -- there are so many good restaurants here. here's an eater guide, but some of our favorites (all celiac-friendly) include: hola arepa, hai hai, francis, khâluna, owamni (dedicated gf) and colita (dedicated gf).Â
the driftless area - southeastern minnesota and western wisconsin were bypassed by the glaciers leaving an interesting region unlike others in the area. fall is a perfect time to visit the blufflands (topography in the midwest???), the rochester plateau (flatter), and the coulee region (where leopold was writing about).
boundary waters - if you like to be on the water, visit this incredible wetland to the north of us. some of the most remote places in the united states, with lots of birds and forest.
north shore -Â this area of minnesota refers to the north shore of lake superior. the largest city is duluth, but people tell us grand portage is the cute artsy place to visit. one of our good friends from new hampshire tells us that the north shore is the new england of the midwest and the pictures of the fall color convinces us this is true.
...to tokyo, seoul, amsterdam, paris, london, dublin, reykjavik, san juan, cancun, mexico city, toronto, montreal, vancouver, and other canadian cities. if this is a good stopover to a place you want to go, check out the nonstop route map: https://www.mspairport.com/flights-airlines/nonstop-route-mapÂ
if there is something you want to do on these lists but you don't have a buddy, contact us and we will play friend matchmaker.
