Congratulations to our first Star of the Week, Sean B, which will begin on Monday, October 19th! For the Mystery Reader day, a fellow CJF student (sibling or friend) can come in person to read a story to the class. If someone outside of CJF is going to be the Mystery Reader for your child, we ask them to record a video of them reading the story to share with the class! When it is your child’s week, please email me letting me know who the Mystery Reader will be and if they are a CJF student or an outside person. As a reminder, please see the attached document Star of the Week for the schedule and what the week will look like when your child is picked! I will send home the poster the Thursday before your child’s week. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to email me!

A Note from Our Specials Teacher, Mrs. Bedrin:
This week we will be learning fire safety! Students will start the week by reading Curious George and the Firefighters. We will learn about the supplies firefighters use to keep us safe and help protect themselves. We will suit up as firemen on Tuesday and sing Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Fire Truck and use our stuffies to practice how to stop, drop, and roll. We will make Thank You cards for the firemen and deliver them when we visit with the firemen and their truck on Wednesday. We will build Dalmatian Fire Dogs in Art. We will play Firefighter Freeze Tag in PE on Thursday and train to be firefighters as we exercise our muscles and get stronger. See you soon!
Tuesday is bring your stuffies to music class!
We had a wonderful second week of PreK! Your children are adjusting so well to school and our daily routines, and I am so proud of them!
This week, our theme is “My Senses.” We will be learning about our five senses and exploring them through artwork, music, shaving cream, apples, and more! We will also begin our Letters of the Week: A, B, and C.
Please send in a change of clothes in a labeled bag for your child’s cubby in case of an accident.
Please make sure your child has all of their supplies, especially Play-Doh, since we do not have any extras yet!
If your child attends CARES after school, please pack a snack labeled with your child’s name and “CARES.”
It would also be helpful if everyone could label their child’s AM snack.
During rest time, students may bring a small stuffed animal. Please do not send blankets or other toys.
Please make sure your child has a fork or spoon for lunch, if necessary.
Please make sure your child brings their folder every day.
This week in specials, we read Parts by Tedd Arnold and learned about our bodies and their different parts. We used lines and curves to build a person named Mat Man and even sang a song about him as we painted him with watercolors! We danced the Tooty Ta by Jack Hartmann and giggled until we fell over! You should look this one up and try it with your children at home! We also introduced scarves and played a freeze-dance game with them. We exercised our bodies outside in the pit, took a walk to the chapel, and played body-part freeze tag to keep our muscles and minds working. It has been so much fun getting to know your children! We’re looking forward to another wonderful week together!
Thank you for a wonderful first week of school! It was such a pleasure beginning to build a bond with each of your children, and I am so excited for the school year ahead!
This week, we will continue getting comfortable with one another, learning our classroom routines, and making our classroom feel like a safe, happy, and fun place to be. We will spend lots of time exploring, playing, singing, reading, creating, and becoming familiar with our new routines.
Our theme for this week is “My Body”! We will learn about and explore our five senses, name different parts of our bodies, and discuss ways we can care for and keep our bodies healthy.
Please send in a change of clothes in a labeled bag for your child’s cubby in case of an accident.
Please refer to the supply list on my website for the supplies and materials that should be sent in with each child.
If your child is attending CARES after school, please pack a snack and label it with your child’s name and “CARES.”

What an awesome first week in Specials! Students read Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin in Library. We sang and danced our way into Music Class while exploring all the many things we can do in our school shoes—read, eat, jump, pray, color, and sing! We made music with our bodies and voices and learned how to “feel the beat.” In Art, students designed their own school shoes and dictated what they liked to do best in them. We then put those school shoes to the test in the Pit during P.E., playing games and learning how to be safe in our outdoor space.
I can’t wait to see what our second week holds!
Our first week is all about getting comfortable, getting to know each other, learning our classroom routines, and making our classroom feel like a safe, happy, and fun place to be. We will be spending lots of time exploring, playing, singing, reading, creating, and getting used to our new routines.
I also created a ClassDojo and invited you to join! I’m excited to share pictures and little moments from our days together.
Getting to know our teachers and new friends
Learning our classroom routines
Exploring our classroom and learning where everything belongs
Practicing how to use our classroom materials safely
Learning about sharing, taking turns, and using kind words
Reading books, singing songs, making crafts, and learning through play
And remember, it is completely normal for children to have all different kinds of feelings about starting school. Some children may be excited right away, while others may feel nervous, miss home, or need a little extra time to adjust. We will take our time, give lots of encouragement, and support each child as they get comfortable in our classroom.
I have also attached a flyer with the details for our Pumpkin Spice with Someone Nice event coming up in October! We hope you can join us!
