TRAC Philippines, , one of its tenets is the promotion of Republic Act (RA) No. 7079, also known as Campus Journalism Act of 1991, and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (1RR), specifically Rule IX of Section I, which states that The Department of Education, Culture and Sports, in coordination with the officers of the national elementary, secondary or tertiary organizations or official advisers of student publications, together with student journalists at the tertiary level and existing organizations of student journalists, shall promulgate the rules and regulations necessary for the effective implementation of this Act.
CAMPUS JOURNALISM CONVENTION aims to:
1. Train student journalists, university paper advisers, and relevant field personnel with an understanding of the importance of Journalism amid challenges.
2. Present different approaches in Journalism to sustain its role in social advocacy and consciousness.
3. Provide relevant opportunities for an enriching learning experience for students interested in Journalism as a stable career.
4. Strengthen responsible journalism (campus level) and fair and ethical use of social media;
5. Heighten students’ campus journalistic skills across the country’s different regions.
6. Gather Filipino journalists, Journalism students, and others interested in the field to establish a manifesto for protecting the Philippine mass media.
The annual convention includes competitions to enhance the participant’s knowledge of campus journalism.
This is also anchored by the celebration of World Journalism Day on May 3, 2025.
