Introduction
This website is a fifth-grade unit plan that will focus on civics and the government in the United States. Throughout the unit, students will learn more about our government on a federal level but also on the state and community levels. Students will also learn what parts they play in the United States as citizens. They will explore how their votes matter in elections, how they can influence others around them, their roles in society, and what their basic rights are. There will be other lessons that range from different national holidays and symbols to elected officials and how it all happens. At the end of this unit, students will be able to understand the importance of their roles as citizens and how the government works around them and on a larger scale.
