The City Hawks trace their roots back to Port Colborne in 1986, when they began as the City Tavern Hawks, proudly sponsored by the longtime local bar, The City Tavern. What started as a team of men enjoying weekly hockey and tournaments quickly grew into a group dedicated to giving back to the community through events like tournaments, elimination draws, and other fundraisers. Over the years, new groups of players stepped in to carry the torch as others moved on, keeping the tradition alive and well. By the late 2010s, a new generation began joining the weekly Wednesday night skates, and after a pause during the COVID years, the coveted Wednesday night ice time was passed down once again. In tribute to the original Hawks, we revived the name, created a fresh logo, and continue to carry forward the same tradition of camaraderie, community, and generosity that has defined the team from the very beginning.
