Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to make a huge impact to citizens’ lives, yet in much of the published work on AI, the needs and wants of citizens are poorly articulated. In this special track, we invite work that foregrounds the citizen perspective, be it in terms of methodology, epistemology or, more practically, in terms of the envisioning and development of systems that leverage AI in ways that will improve the lives and prospects of individual citizens and communities, or that describe the risks of social harm.
Papers could capture a range of contexts (e.g., family life, health and wellbeing, future working and education) and include systematic reviews, methodologies (e.g., speculative co-design of AI futures), empirical studies addressing algorithmic justice, equitable citizen engagement and representation, the impact of monetization, governance, usability and technology acceptance, and a citizen-centric perspective on trustable and transparent AI.
Papers must not have been previously published elsewhere. They should satisfy the same quality threshold as the main conference track and will be peer-reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. The final version of the papers must follow the formatting instructions of the main conference – see Submission Guidelines. At least one of the authors of all accepted papers must register and present the work in presence at the conference; otherwise, the paper will not be published in the proceedings. All accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings published in ACM Digital Library.
