Citewise is built to need as little of your data as possible. When you cite a webpage, it reads that page's publicly visible content — title, author, publication date directly in your browser to build the citation, happening all locally. When you cite a DOI instead, Citewise sends only that DOI to CrossRef's public API (api.crossref.org) to retrieve publication details. Any citations you choose to save are kept in a bibliography list stored locally on your own device using your browser's built-in storage, and that list is never transmitted anywhere. The only exception is feedback you choose to send. When you use the footer button to suggest a feature or report a bug, Citewise sends your message, the page link you add to a bug report if you add one, and the Citewise version and your browser name, stored with the date they arrived. Nothing is sent unless you press Send. No name, email, account or IP address is stored, so it cannot be linked back to you, and please leave personal details out of your message. This information is stored with a hosting provider and is used only to fix problems and improve Citewise.Beyond this feedback and reading the specific page or DOI you ask it to cite, Citewise does not collect, store, sell, or share personally identifiable information, health information, financial information, authentication credentials, location data, browsing history, or user activity such as clicks, keystrokes, or mouse movement, and it runs no analytics and no third-party advertising of any kind.
